Brief Description

The purpose of this position is to oversee one or more major areas or functions of the library. This includes supervising the daily operations of the Reference and Youth departments, monitoring and evaluating the development and implementation of library programs and the library’s webpages. This position supervises and evaluates subordinate staff, and oversees the library volunteer program. Sound working knowledge of department policies and procedures is required in order to regularly manage the library in the absence of the Administrator and to participates in the hiring process, as well in scheduling of staff and the disciplinary process. This position involves the training of all new hires in best practices at the Information desks. General reference and information services will be provided at the various service desks as required. Other duties include coordinating activities with other departments, developing goals, polices and procedures, and providing input to and monitoring library budgets. Some evening and weekend shifts are required. Experience in working with computers is highly desirable, as are excellent communication and organizational skills.

Formal Education

Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Masters degree-level of study, examples include a P.E., Law Degree, or CPA.

Essential Function: Manage the library in the absence of the Library Administrator.
