The Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Health Care System is seeking full time staff Psychiatristfor our Lawton locationwithin Psychiatry service which is affiliated with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

The psychiatrist provides recovery-oriented outpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment for a panel of Veterans who receive care at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Lawton/Ft. Sill, OK. The incumbent is expected to possess strong clinical skills to provide treatment for a range of mental health disorders relevant to Veterans and will provide a wide range of care including - high risk assessment and referral; intake/diagnostic and assessments; comprehensive treatment planning using patient centered and recovery-based models; evidence-based individual, group, and family therapy services to Veterans and their families; and case/care management services.
As part of the facility's outpatient Mental Health Clinic, incumbent serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team, working closely with colleagues of different disciplines to see that each Veteran's holistic health needs and goals for recovery are met. In all aspects of care, actively collaborates with the CBOCs primary care, mental health, and social support teams.
Other duties may include, but not limited to; may be required to provide some psychiatric care via tele-health technologies, responsible to document all care provided in the agency's electronic medical record, participates, as assigned, in quality assurance activities and peer chart reviews.
The incumbent will rotate with other physicians on a monthly roster for weekend/holiday coverage, and week night backup for residents; and through affiliated institutions, may participate in education and training of psychiatry residents, medical students, psychology interns, and allied health trainees. As time permits, may participate in research projects. May be assigned to various programs within Mental Health Service depending on fluctuating staffing patterns and workloads.

Basic Requirements: * United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. * Education:Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. * License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. * Residency: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. * English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English. * Physical Standards:Physical requirements outlined below. Reference:VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment physical. Position requires walking, standing, reading typewritten material without strain, ability to hear conversational voice, emotional and mental stability, and working closely with others. A respirator medical evaluation is also required.
